There’s a tidal-wave of optimism about PSVR2 emerging from GDC, where Sony is showcasing its new hardware in private to industry professionals. Earlier today, Chet Faliszek, a Valve veteran, described a tech demo he was treated to as “so good” and added: “You know where the world just feels different when you return?”
Since, a developer at Truant Pixel – the team making PSVR2 motorcycle title RUNNER – has weighed in on the hardware on the ResetEra forum. One poster pointed out that Faliszek’s comments sounded “hyperbolic”, a point which he denied. “Sony has been extremely deliberate with a lot of their choices about this thing,” he said. “They’ve been reading the room for a long time now.”
While clearly under NDA, the dev added: “Performance and immersion goes beyond resolution. The numbers certainly matter, but the whole is definitely greater than the sum.” Now PSVR2 has some of the best specs on the market already, but the creator – who has first-hand experience with the headset – pointed to some of its other features, like haptic feedback.
“Haptics make a bigger impact than you realise. Think about the first time you experienced DualSense, now consider it in the context of VR.” PSVR2’s Sense controllers include all of the functionality of the DualSense and more, including adaptive triggers and even rudimentary finger tracking. He continued: “Stop sweating about the wire. It’ll disappear once you start playing – unless you’re spinning in circles or something.”
As for the lack of gameplay or videos, the Truant Pixel employee pointed out: “It should be clear by now that [off-screen footage] is never representative of the experience for VR, which often is unfairly scrutinized by gamers who are already very sceptical and jaded. I say this from experience. VR already has enough to ‘prove’ to people, and showing unfinished builds with incomplete assets or performance hitches would not be in anyone’s best interests.”

Just sell one to me already, Sony.
I’ve been scanning the internet all day for PSVR2 news, lol.
I'm still not sold on VR I think its mainly because the games I like wouldn't neccessarily be great choices for the tech or actually flat out work, it would be more of a gimmick to me something to fill some time rather than be my future of gaming but I'm definitely getting more intrigued
I need this thing in my home so bad
Still a shame immersion didn’t go beyond wires.
I wonder how much better this will end up selling over psvr1. VR adds so much to average games.
Any sign of a release date?
I hope it comes out this year. I'm excited for it and the haptic feedback sounds great. It sounds like it will be a better experience than a Vive. You'd have so spend tons of extra money on extra stuff to get the PSVR2 experience potentially. An extra thousand probably. So yeah PC might do the same or better if you pay at least 4-5 times as much.
There is absolutely no way to properly showcase VR outside of experiencing it yourself. I like that PSVR let’s you see what people are doing, but a flat screen view of that 3D space loses the entire point of VR. I doubt Sony sets up demos at retailers the way they did with PSVR given the pandemic, but that’s what made me a Day One. Almost losing my lunch doing a barrel roll in Eve sold me. No regrets. And no more barrel rolls.
I have to have a little laugh about this... Sony can put all the R&D into this VR Headset and all the millions of dollars no doubt and yet couldn't even do anything regarding backwards compatibility? They couldn't even put any effort into backwards compatibility?
VR gaming isn't even the future for one thing, my opinion anyway. Unless they can solve the motion sickness then it's useless to me anyway.
Moar! Show me mooooaaaaaaarrr!!!!
@QualityGeezer have you seen this setup, for vr?

@PhhhCough My goodness I feel like just getting the headset, headphones, and requisite wiring set up is an almost prohibitive task. I just can't even imagine this. This is something you do in your teens or 20s because you have way too much time on your hands. Imagine getting home from an 8-10 hour day of working and even considering doing this.
@QualityGeezer that said, VR is pretty fun when you're able to get around to it. Don't think it's ever replacing the way we game now but it's definitely complimentary.
Oct 20, 2022, calling it now.
@zupertramp after 8-10hr day? Only if I could supplant my cardio, with this instead😆
@Fragile I wouldn’t pay more for than 399 EUR, even with my ability to pay much more than this. I find it intriguing, but also very unsocial, showing all the people around me that I don’t want to see them.
@Bleachedsmiles NGL, I loathe wires. Having said that, I get extreme nausea with the wireless Oculus. If the wire in the PS5VR fixes that, I'm all on board.
@PhhhCough I hadn't seen that, looks exhausting. Might save on gym fees tho'
Day 1 purchase. Just like the OG
@Fragile easy 4-500 at launch. Psvr was the same price as the ps4.
@themightyant
I quit the gym recently as I would play beat saber and Boxvr far more frequently than I’d go gym. Saved £25 a month, lol.
What does he mean by off screen footage?
@zupertramp Imagine just leaving it hooked like the console is left hooked up. There’s no reason unless kids are gonna break to get it out and put it away every time you use it.
@Snake_V5 While there is certainly some great PSVR games I would hope to play on PSVR 2, backwards compatibility is not a deal breaker for me. I believe it’s a medium which needs to escape some of the shackles of the past and look forward. I’m sure instead of backward compatibility there should be remastered/ re-released/enhanced PSVR2 versions of some of the existing greats like Beat Saber, Blood & Truth, Moss, No Man’s Sky etc. That would tick my boxes anyway!
Someone got a leak of a PSVR2 game or even gameplay? Would be fun to see or hear about it...
@Jaz007 yeah I mean, it pretty much stays hooked up. But i still gotta string it out to a suitable spot in room, turn on move or aim controllers, put on headset along with the over the ear headphones because those buds kinda suck, adjust everything so i can see and hear fine and the cord isn't in the way, then finally start playing.
Maybe I'm just super lazy, i won't rule it out, but all that is kinda too much sometimes. Then there are the games like beat saber where I'm sweating into the headset so now i also have cleaning to do.
Just really looking forward to a future where I basically just have to put on some glasses or something.
While improved load times attract me, I haven't picked up a PS5 yet as it's a lot of money and there aren't any exclusive games that I feel demand I dump my existing backlog and get on board. That said, PSVR2 sounds really exciting and I'm going to feel a strong urge to pickup a PS5+PSVR2 once it is released. I loved the original - although the Move controllers felt useless for games more complex than Pistol Whip - and this sounds so much better.
@Fragile I offer $700 and a kidney.
